The show has been a hit for fans and students of the paranormal since it began in 2008, so it’s not hard to see why Ghost Adventures still hits high ratings after so many seasons.

A paranormal reality series, Ghost Adventures stars lead investigator and author Zak Bagans with team members Aaron Goodwin, Billy Tolly and Jay Wasley, The team travel across the world to investigate allegedly haunted locations, which has resulted in episodes filmed in some of the most infamous buildings ever, including The Hotel Cecil (in which student Elisa Lam was found dead in mysterious circumstances).

It was earlier this year (19th May, 2022 to be exact) that new spin-off series, Ghost Adventures: House Calls aired on Discovery, and fans have been lapping it up.

Although Zak Bagans has been behind some of the most successful paranormal shows to ever hit our screens, such as Deadly Possessions (in which he takes a closer look at haunted objects); Serial Killer Spirits (a mini 4 part show in which Bagans tries to communicate with deceased killers); Demon House (a feature length documentary about a haunted house that he purchased) and The Haunted Museum (a series focusing on Bagan’s haunted collection).

For many of the most ardent fans, though, this latest series — House Calls — seems to have proven hugely popular, and not least because it sets aside some of the most famous hauntings in favour of helping everyday, regular families across America.

In House Calls, Zak Bagan and his team seek out people in distress, in their own homes, who have found themselves locked into unbelievably bizarre and frightening circumstances. Thrust into a deadly situation in which they feel unsure of what to do or who to turn to, the individuals all reached out to Bagans in search of help and answers — and that’s exactly what they got in this eight episode series.

Episodes include The Jacksonville Family Curse, in which a mother and daughter believe they are living under a decades long curse and as a result have experienced frightening phenomena and bad luck; Ellington Home Invasion, in which a husband and wife live in fear of their children’s safety due to seeing a demonic figure on their property, and Panic In Palatka, where Bagans and his team investigate a horse ranch in Florida with a dark history and potential curse.

Ghost Adventures: House Calls brings to the forefront the reality of living with the paranormal in people’s day-to-day life, and allows host Bagans and his team to use his expertise to free the individuals involved from the fear they have lived under — often for many years.

Where many popular shows focus on the fascinating history of locations and properties, the deeply intimate and personal depth to House Calls shows viewers the reality of what it means to face frightening phenomena in a place they should feel safe: their home.

The show allows the audience to see that dark occurrences are not just words across the pages of historical documents, but a living and breathing experience of many across the world to this day.
